"MUMBAI: Fed up with complications arising from his HIV-positive
condition, a 32-year-old man committed suicide by hanging himself from
a pipe on the terrace of Holy Family Hospital in Bandra West on
Monday.

Police sources said the victim was a resident of Nallasopara and
worked as a driver with a private company. He was diagnosed with this
condition about two years ago, and was taking treatment from a medical
practitioner.

[...]

AIDS consultant Dr I S Gilada said in most such cases, patients are in
need of proper counselling by hospital staff, without which they may
plunge into depression. 'If the patient is suffering from any kind of
problem, this must also be considered by counsellors,' he said.

According to him, with medical treatment now HIV patients are able to
live eight years or more, after being diagnosed with the condition."

Obviously Dr Gilada hasn't been keeping up-to-date with what's going
on in the medical world of HIV.  We can't really blame him, given all
the contradictions there are.  However, his eight year life expectancy
prediction is very pessimistic.

"However, the use of antiretroviral therapy is now associated with a
series of serious side effects and long-term complications that may
have a negative impact on mortality rates.

More deaths occurring from liver failure, kidney disease, and
cardiovascular complications are being observed in this patient
population."

This isn't a surprise to many of us.  The dangers of the HIV drugs
have been known about for a very long time.  AZT has killed more lives
than it saved, and the nasty side-effects of the other HIV wonder
drugs can be seen in its guinea pigs sat in HIV clinics throughout the
world.

Also from that document:

"AIDS is caused by the human immunodeficiency virus
(HIV). By killing or damaging cells of the body's immune
system, HIV progressively destroys the body's ability to
fight infections and certain cancers. People diagnosed with
AIDS may get life-threatening diseases called opportunistic
infections, which are caused by microbes such as viruses or
bacteria that usually do not make healthy people sick."

I see they're hedging their bets a bit: HIV is "killing or damaging
cells of the body's immune system."  Isn't the latest theory that the
body's immune system just gives up?

And they've got the bit about AIDS diagnosis arse about tit.  AIDS is
diagnosed in people who are HIV+ AFTER they've got one of the special
'AIDS defining conditions.'

"Today, HIV/AIDS is a global catastrophe. According to the
Joint United Nations Program on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS),
approximately 38.6 million people worldwide are living
with HIV/AIDS, and more than 4 million people were
newly infected in 2005 — about 11,000 each day. In the
United States, more than 1 million people are living with
HIV/AIDS, with one fourth of the people unaware of their
status, and approximately 40,000 new infections occurring
each year. Worldwide, more than 25 million people with
HIV died since the pandemic began, including more than
520,000 in the United States. In 2005, there were an
estimated 2.8 million deaths worldwide due to HIV/AIDS."

This means the HIV drugs have failed so badly in the US that more than
one in every three people with 'HIV' has died.  And the rest are
probably rapidly heading towards liver failure and other nasty HIV
medication side-effects.

Is HIV/AIDS really a "global catastrophe?"  The figure of 38.6 million
that's often quoted is inflated, and far fewer people are HIV+ than
previously predicted.
