I need your help.

Our Annual Conference in San Francisco is coming up soon and we
haven't yet filled our room block. Our deadline to fill the rooms
-- and the last day to book the special rate -- is Wednesday,
September 20. If we don't fill the rooms, we waste a lot of money
on penalties, which then won't be available to do our important
work.

I am writing to ask you to help us get the word out about the
conference by taking a moment to to forward an informational
email to the listservs or email groups you manage or participate
in. I'm sending the HTML version of that message
separately. Below is a text version of the same thing, in case
that works better for your lists.

Here's an introduction you can use to personalize the message:

Here's information about GLMA's excellent conference on LGBT
health, coming up in October in San Francisco. Reserve your hotel
room by September 20 to get their special rate.  [Your Name]

Thank you very much for your assistance.

SUBJECT: GLMA's LGBT Health Conference --
        Register Before September 20!

If you're interested in the healthcare needs of lesbian, gay,
bisexual and transgender people, you won't want to miss the
24th Annual Conference of the Gay & Lesbian Medical Association
(GLMA), which takes place October 11-14, 2006 in San
Francisco. Go to www.glma.org to register and for details.

GLMA's Annual Conference offers you the opportunity to network
and socialize with LGBT and allied healthcare professionals from
across the United States, Canada, and from other countries -
while earning continuing education credits and enjoying nightly
receptions.

GLMA began 25 years ago as a group of physicians joining together
to respond to HIV/AIDS. Since then, GLMA's scope has expanded
substantially. The organization is now interdisciplinary, which
means that it is open to all healthcare providers, not just
physicians.

GLMA's issues are the issues that affect our entire
community. Whether your interest is lesbian health, transgender
health, substance abuse and mental health, aging, families and
relationships, Intersex, or legal issues, you'll find rich
programming that is relevant to your practice, your research, and
your life.

Here are some highlights of this year's conference:

- We proudly present pre-conference institutes on lesbian health,
transgender health, and HIV/AIDS, and special symposia on
 cancer and Intersex.

- Jody Huckaby, Executive Director of PFLAG, and
Jack Drescher, MD, a well known New York psychiatrist, present
on the issue of "reparative" or "conversion therapy," and how
these unproven, experimental treatment are harming youth.

- GLMA unveils its just-completed study on crystal meth use by
gay and bisexual men. The report raises important questions
about the nature of public discourse on the subject, the social
and media response, and best treatments.

- David Malebranche, MD, MPH, newly appointed to the
Presidential Advisory Council on HIV/AIDS, presents on
 HIV/AIDS in the African-American community.

- The interplay of religion and healthcare is one of the most
important issues facing our society today. Jenny Pizer of
Lambda Legal discusses the legal issues raised by the case of
Lupita Benitez, the San Diego lesbian whose doctors refused to
 treat her for religious reasons.

- What is the healthcare provider perspective on civil unions and
same sex marriage? Psychiatrists Ellen Haller, Gene Nakajima,
and Lisa Inman, will help you understand why same-sex marriage
 is a health issue.

You have only one more week to book your room at the Renaissance
Parc 55 Hotel at the special conference rate. Act now: go to
http://www.glma.org
to register and to make your travel plans.

We look forward to seeing you in San Francisco.

"Admission to the GLMA Excellent Conference on LGBTRSBA health
is US$1500 and includes hotel, meals, the wild orgy to be held
at the Crisco Disco following the conference.  The wild orgy
includes free drinks, lubricant, and up to 1g of crystal meth."

Inferring that this is a statement made by GLMA is a form of libel.

I altered it sufficiently to be obvious as a parody.  Anyway, the
actual location is the Blue Oyster Bar and while drinks are free,
you must bring your own lube and drugs.  The conference will
consist of 20 or so speakers who will blame the Bush II, Bush I,
Reagan, and even Nixon administrations for the worldwide AIDS
epidemic, and call on the U.S. government to spend at least another
$25 trillion on the disease in the form of grants to be administered
by GLMA and its affiliated HIV advocacy organizations.
