(Atlanta-AP) November 8, 2005 -

A former Emory University medical student who is HIV positive has been sentenced to two years
in prison after pleading guilty to reckless conduct in Fayette County Superior Court.
Authorities say Garry Wayne Carriker engaged in unprotected sex but failed to tell his partner
he had the virus. He pleaded guilty Monday and was given credit for about five months served.

Carriker, who was the Fayette County High School salutatorian eight years ago, still faces two
reckless conduct charges in Fulton County. The three men he had sex with have not tested
positive for the virus.

The Fayetteville man was charged under a seldom-used 1988 law that makes it a felony for people
who know they have HIV to engage in unprotected sex without disclosing their status.

Fayette County Assistant District Attorney Al Dixon says Carriker's case is the first time
someone has been prosecuted in the county under the HIV reckless conduct law.

A lawsuit filed by the man with whom Carriker had a relationship for four months says Carriker
learned he had HIV in June 2003.

The lawsuit says the two met in an Internet chat room in December but that Carriker did not say
he had the virus until the relationship ended.

Carriker graduated from high school with a 4.0 average and won an appointment to the Air Force
Academy. He enrolled at Emory's School of Medicine in 2001. Students elected him chair of the
school's Honor Council.

You didn't answer my question...

Are you a Christian?

Don't be silly.

A good friend of mine is the wife of a *very* evangelical pastor.  I
once asked her how she could be a friend and she answered, "What you
are/what you do is between God and you.  If there's a punishment, why
should I make it any worse?  And how could I?"

she understands aids is doing its job.

I hope she prays for you.

There is no cure for aids so a few kind words whispered
in the wind won't hurt her or help you.
