Induction of coreceptor expression is NOT the same as characterizing
HIV/AIDS as some oddball form of syphilis.
It CERTAINLY underscores a role of these two as co-infecting agents
with dire outcomes. And no question, we do need better and more
effective treatments for syphilis. People with HIV may need more
aggressive therapy with syphilis.
That does not mean that HIV/AIDS = syphilis infection in the
slightest. It is not evidentiary of such an hypothesis.
