'm a black man and have had vitiligo on my right elbow since I
was very very young (4 or 5).I also have had pinkish lips but my lower
lip has depigmented more over the last 10 years.I started noticing more
of it in 1994 and over the years it has progressed and my lower lip is
depigmenting more and getting the pink/redish colour of the inside of
my mouth. Here in Africa , people associate that with HIV/AIDS as it
seems that people who're in fact infected , do develop pink lips.I dont
feel free to mix with friends anymore because I'm always aware my lower
lip and the stares I get from people. There was even a rumour making the
rounds that I have HIV/AIDS because the depigmentation of my lower lip.

1)Could the depigmentation be due to the vitiligo I've always had on my
elbow?

2)Is there any link between vitiligo and HIV/AIDS?Does this mean I have
HIV/AIDS?

3)Does HIV cause the lower lip to depigment and develop a pinkish
color?

thanks

try to search the internet! most articles say the cause of depigmentation
is UNKNOWN.

You need to seek help from a dermatologist, not strangers on the
internet... even medical professionals hesitate to diagnose long
distance (unless its for political purposes).

If you're concerned about HIV, you need to be tested.
