Outright lies to told to members of South Africa's Parliament

Medical Rersearch Council chief Prof. Anthony Mbewu told outright lies
(wittingly or
unwittingly) to members of South Africa's Parliament's science and
technology committee. In the briefing, he is reported to have said
sustained government efforts in
treating sexually transmitted infections such as syphilis and gonorrhoea
were also contributing to slower HIV infection rates.

Mbewu said sexually transmitted infections, including of syphilis and
gonorrhoea, were critical factors in making people vulnerable to
infection.

"In 1998, the prevalence of syphilis among women attending public health
clinics was of the order of 8%, which is extraordinary.

"Through the expansion of primary health care services in this country,
resulting in increasing detection and proper treatment of sexually
transmitted infections among pregnant women, we've seen the rates decline
to 2% by 2003".
"So if when we're thinking of an intervention that can mitigate the HIV
infection and thereby mitigate the impact of the epidemic on the economy
and productivity, primary health care is one of the most crucial
interventions," he said.

If sexually transmitted infections could be properly detected and treated,
the chances of men and women becoming infected with the HI-virus dropped
significantly, he added.
Mbewu was recycling the view that HIV is easily transmitted in the
presence of STD's. But the figures from Department of Health's HIV and
Syphilis Sero-prevalence Survey exposes Mbewu's misstatements.

In 2003, 2.8 pregnant women tested positive for syphilis, compared to a
staggering 27% for HIV. Kwa-Zulu Natal province had the lowest syphilis
rate at 1.3%, but the highest HIV rate at  33.5%. The Western Cape
province, by contrast, had a higher than national average syphilis rate of
2.9, but the lowest HIV rate of 8.6%. Figures for other provinces and
other years also show syphilis and HIV gowing in opposite directions.

Mbewu and the MRC, being "experts" on AIDS and adivising the govt. in its
annual HIV and Syphilis Sero-prevalence Survey, are aware of the yawning
discrepancy between syphilis and HIV, yet have the temerity to tell us
that reducing syphilis decreases the likelihood of HIV infection. But the
DOH figures tell a different story. Syphilis has been on the decline for
many years (now under 3%), and HIV has been on the increase simultaneously
(now at 27% of pregnant women).

What the DOH report tells us is that you can reduce syphilis to zero, but
HIV will still increase; hence there's no link or correlation between the
two.
What the MRC told Parliament is what passes for "science" in the field of
AIDS. We are paying millions in taxes just for the MRC to produce junk
science, which will then be picked up by the TAC and other activists to
tell the youth to beware "the link between HIV and STD's".

Mbewu's presentation to Parliament is exactly why senior ANC leaders do
not take the MRC seriously

Paul/Mark/whoever you decide to be today, which is it AIDS doesn't exist or
it does? You argue continuously that AIDS is a myth yet when you find
something you 'think' might support your fantasies but also happens to state
that AIDS exits you don't seem to see the hypocrisy in using the material
even though you completely disagree with one of the main tenants of the
data. That AIDS does indeed exist, so again Paul which is it do you believe
AIDS exists as the bellow article supports or do you think AIDS is a myth
and therefore the bellow article is totally useless in regards support of
your belief's?

Don't you understand that many of my posts are NEWS not intended to
completely support my position.

Unlike you, I feel reader should hear ALL sides of the topic.

I imagine that concept is beyond your understanding.

Cannibalism copycat who kept a man in his fridge
From Roger Boyes in Berlin

A CANNIBAL confessed yesterday to a court in Berlin that he had killed a teacher and fed the
man's lungs to his cat before he had sliced off and salted other parts of his body with a view
to eating them later.
Ralf Meyer, 41, a decorator, was clearly emulating Armin Meiwes, the "Cannibal of Rotenburg",
who was jailed last year for murdering and eating a software specialist.

"I'm ashamed and cannot even dare to offer an apology to his relatives," Herr Meyer said in a
confession read out by his defence lawyer.

The victim, Joe Ritzkowsky, 33, taught music at Berlin's renowned Waldorf School. The clergyman
's son was drawn to Herr Meyer's flat through an internet chat room. He let himself be tied to
the bed and the two men had sex, during which Herr Meyer dug a screwdriver into the teacher's
neck.

After Herr Ritzkowsky bled to death, Herr Meyer slit open his body, ripped out the lungs for
his cat and cut off the penis, which he prepared with spices and wrapped in Cellophane. Then he
chopped up the body and placed organs in the fridge. "It was like a butcher's shop," said a
policeman who searched the flat. The torso was on the bed, with the hacked-off legs and arms
laid alongside.

Herr Meyer said in his confession: "I'm afraid of the dark side of my personality, but it
continues to fascinate me."

His defence lawyer emphasised that, unlike Meiwes, Herr Meyer had not eaten any of the organs.
When he surrendered to police, he said calmly: "I have killed a man. Help me, there's a man in
my fridge."

The prosecution has charged Herr Meyer with "murder out of base motive, driven by sexual
desire". Cannibalism is not an offence under German law.

Police have long feared that the Meiwes case would weaken the taboo against eating human flesh.
Meiwes was convicted of manslaughter, but recently the German Appeals Court decided that there
should be a re-trial, in which the State will try again to win a conviction for murder.

The defence team said yesterday that they would try to have Herr Meyer sent to a psychiatric
clinic for an extended period.

Details of a 105-page psychiatric report have been leaked to the press. Herr Meyer told the
examining doctor that he had fantasies, even in his prison cell while awaiting trial, of
viciously attacking his fellow inmates.

The dossier shows that Herr Meyer started to have cannibal fantasies at the age of 25. Two
years ago he started to advertise on the internet for potential victims. One read: "Looking for
slim man, round about 30, to be roasted."

Police estimate from internet exchanges that there are 204 Germans ready to be slaughtered to
feed a cannibal, 13 are ready to watch such an act and 29 would like to eat a human being. The
trial will continue next week.
