I feel not only moved or saddened or cynical, but compelled to do
something

Ben Williams

Like many others, this is the first time I've written into a programme. I
haven't been able to stop thinking about these children all day. Is there
anything more we can do? Please repeat this programme and publicise it
more prominently. More people need to be made aware of this issue.
Karen, Swansea

Words cannot describe how I felt after watching this programme. If there
is anything we can do to help highlight this situation please let us know.

Millie Neil, Manchester

This was one of the most heartbreaking and disturbing documentaries I have
ever seen - especially in New York City where I'm from. What are these
children's rights in a democracy? What can be done?
Jill, Derbyshire

Thanks for such an informative yet heart-wrenching programme

Sandra Davis, Hertfordshire

I've never written in like this before, but I was left in shock by these
revalations. For the first time, I feel not only moved or saddened or
cynical, but compelled to do something. Anything.
Ben Williams, London

Complete utter and appalling rubbish. It never once addressed the issue of
how children are supposed to access the latest, more effective, more
tolerable treatment for HIV. The programme was fundamentally flawed and
used every opportunity to talk about toxicity instead of the lifes saved
through newer treatment.
Simon Collins, London

If it wasn't for the BBC, people in America would never know about things
like this.
Byron, San Antonio

This is just unbelivable! I can't believe this is really happening. In New
York?! How is this posible?
Antonija, Beckenham

Thanks for such an informative yet heart-wrenching programme. I
immediately e-mailed the ACS in America.
Sandra Davis, Hertfordshire

I was so upset by this programme and hope that something can be done to
persuade the authorities in New York that the trials must be stopped.
Vicky, Northampton

Did I just see what I think I saw?

Lindsay Hodgson, Gateshead

I have never before written into a programme but was so horrified by this
documentary that I felt compelled to write. I would even like to find out
what else can be done to highlight this further.
Buckley Rosemarie, Burnley

We all want a vaccine or a non-toxic drug to be developed to save or
improve the lives of people with HIV but at this cost? No way!!!
Dawn McGrath, East Sussex

Did I just see what I think I saw? Can someone pinch me please, as prior
to watching this programme I thought I was living in the 21st Century.
Horrific, unbelievable, inexcusable.
Lindsay Hodgson, Gateshead

One of the saddest programmes I have ever watched. Thank you for showing
it.
Catherine Njuguna, London

What can we do to free these poor children and give them the rights they
are due?

Martin & Stephen, Brighton & Hove

Thank you so much for bringing this to our notice in this country.
Hopefully it will make some difference to defenceless children.
Susan Shaw-Cooper, UK

I think this is absolutely horrendous. It should be stopped immediately.
Emma, Scotland

All parties involved in this scandal must be exposed and these experiments
must be stopped.
David Robertson, London

We are two HIV positive people who have undergone the medication these
poor children are being subjected to and we understand the terrible
side-effects suffered. We had the choice of whether we wanted to continue
some of our pill regimes and often stopped them because of the awful
side-effects. What can we do to free these poor children and give them the
rights they are due?
Martin & Stephen, Brighton & Hove

I am 11 years old and just watched your programme. My cousins live in New
York City and it frightens me that this kind of thing goes on. I fear for
the children, especially the ones who cannot speak up.
Katie Wilson, Ipswich

As a parent I found this almost unwatchable.
Iain Biggs, Bristol

The documentary was excellent and has left me wanting to act on this

Elizabeth Lancaster, Doncaster

I caught this programme halfway through but I was so affected by it. How
can this be allowed to go on? It is shameful and those responsible should
be brought to justice. I'm just so appalled, especially by the case of the
two half-sisters who were doing so well off the drugs and then were taken
away from their adoptive family. I can't describe how sorry I feel for
them.
Uzo Mkparu, London

I feel completely disgusted. How can this kind of practice be going on?
Red tape and bureaucracy have no place when dealing with children's
lives.
Peter Watkin, Bristol

I had to fight my tears watching the terrible situation these children are
in. How is this possible in this day and age?
Elle Maessen, The Netherlands

I'm in shock after this programme and for the first time in a long time
find myself in tears of pity, rage and frustration. Is there nothing that
your average member of the public out here can do? Please, please tell us
more!
Catherine Czerkawska, Ayrshire

I was shocked to the core by this programme

Helen, Livingston

Are there no international human rights laws that apply here? Thank you
for this innovative investigative journalism - appalling to watch, but
very well handled.
Jen, Nottingham

The documentary was excellent and has left me wanting to act on this. Is
there anything we can do for these children?
Elizabeth Lancaster, Doncaster

Absolutely appalled.
Val Jones, Portishead

I was shocked to the core by this programme. Words can not express the
sympathy that I feel for the parents and children involved. How can this
possibly be allowed to continue in the "free" world? What can we do to
help?
Helen, Livingston

I wish that the news here in the USA would pick this story up

Katrina, USA

Congratulations to the BBC for not only having the guts to investigate but
actually broadcast a piece so inflammatory. It will be interesting to see
if you have the courage of your convictions and investigate further.
Chris Mackinnon, Edinburgh

Disgusting and unforgivable to use these children, whose lives have
already been dealt a huge blow.
Mark Neve, Stubbington

This is news to me. I wish that the news here in the USA would pick this
story up. I really thought that those days were over.
Katrina, USA

Or you can read a couple of the more sensible comments from the other
side...

The posts from Dec 3rd and 4th refer to the BBC story.

The British media is awful at bias, far worse than the US.  That's not
to say that it's not true, just that they're a little choosy about what
they want to show and what they want to leave out...

92% of the British public trust doctors to tell the truth, versus 20%
for journalists.  72% of the Brits think journalists actively lie.  The
BBC is _supposed_ to be a neutral non-partisan channel - a bastion of
intelligent reporting for the world.  Not any more...  It's up to the
average person on the street to make their own minds up about things,
based on the evidence presented to them.  Poor saps.
