“…HIV dementia among those reporting any antiretroviral use (AZT, ddI, ddC,
or d4T) was 97% higher than among those not using this antiretroviral
therapy…the findings… seem to confirm…a neurotoxic effect of
antiretroviral agents. Numerous studies have linked the use of ddI, ddC,
and d4T to the development of toxic sensory neuropathies, usually in a
dose-response fashion.”

LOL. Your re line is WRONG!!!!
High central nervous system HIV load is related to the development of
dementia. ARV brings the load down. Dementia is reduced in incidence.
Unfortunately, ARV drugs like ddI, ddC and d4T have effects on
PERIPHERAL nerves and cause neuropathy in many. Acetylcarnitine may
help offset this problem, along with alpha lipoic acid, B complex,
etc.
